Private Medical Center - Critical Medical
Research Facility, CHICAGO, IL
VALUE DELIVERED
EMCOR Services Team Mechanical collaborated with the client to develop a comprehensive emergency cooling plan to compensate for the 500 ton absorption chiller that failed at the client’s research facility.
Because emergency cooling/heating projects often require a specific and unique set of challenges, Team Mechanical’s expertise was paramount in successfully coordinating all critical factors for this project. The safety and security of the building tenants and guests was sustained and the grounds keeping assisted with equipment access and protection of the landscaping. The engineering staff calculated the required cooling and electrical loads to pipe-fitters and electricians who worked around the clock to install the temporary hoses and cabling. The result was a temporary cooling system that kept the facility cool 24/7 throughout the summer and preserved all experiments and research.
CLIENT OBJECTIVES
The client was seeking emergency temporary cooling for their critical medical research facility without compromising hundreds of long-term, temperature-sensitive experiments and research.
PROJECT SOLUTIONS
To meet the expectations of the client, Team Mechanical installed taps in the building system while an emergency air cooled chiller unit was selected, ordered, and delivered to the jobsite within hours of the failure. Temporary hoses were installed up the side of the building to the penthouse along with temporary electrical cabling from the building next door.
